Community Champion Spotlight of the Month
As we continue to prepare for the big Utulivu celebration of 20 years of positive impact in our
communities planned for Sunday the 28th of July, hearing more of that impact every month
inspires and empowers us to do more. This month we spotlight one of our most valued
community champion, Florence Makinde, who continue to use her academic achievements
to empower women & Girls, and families at large. During the grassroots communities
conference last month she announced the launch of the Florence Maternity Services (FMS)
aimed to address the Health Inequality of language barrier experienced by women of
different ethnic cultures and backgrounds who are not fully clear about the midwifery terminology
or how their bodies function during pregnancy, labour or childbirth. This is based on her over 27
years’ experience as a midwife and a lecturer in midwifery. Her passion for bringing this knowledge to
the communities in a culturally tailored approach was driven by the EMBRRACE-UK Report (2023)–.
